BMW M3 3.2
Hi Simon,
I got my colleague, a former motor engineer,
who has also raced cars to
sum up what the cams are like. I thought this
would get the point across
with maximum impact!
Cheers,
Andrew
P.S. feel free to edit his comments or attribute
them to me if you like.

Chip re-flash - report
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Garry - Melbourne, as posted on the DTM Power
forum.
After listening to many respected and not so
respected opinions on "chipping"
the engine management system on the M3-3.2ltr.
Some respected ppl suggested that performing
this mod is a waste of $$$, and even if done in
real time with an intercerpor management system,
perhaps lucky to reap 5kW at best, and there were
others saying that the 3.2 is tuned very conservatively
(compared to the 3.0 M3)and there is good power
to be had, around 15rwkw, suggesting why the 3.2
feels doughy and flat compared to the 3.0, is
mainly in the timing maps.
The lure of potential hidden kW was just to much
and I decied to take the punt, as the chip tuner
offered me a 7 day money back no Q's asked condition.
The proceedure took about 3hrs, and im happy
to report, that there is a significant differece
with the new engine software. Firstly the engine
feels more "alive" and respods well
to low throttle inputs. It seems more flexible
as well, pulling without protest 40-45km/h in
6th on flat ground. At full throttle it revs with
more urgency, and it keeps pulling to the extended
rpm cutout. With the sticky tyres ive got there
is a nice chrip on the redline 1-2 shift (which
wasnt there before), and 4th gear overtaking responce
is certanly better.
Id say based on the right foot dyno, it definetly
feels significantly more urgent & powerful,
where often you cannot really feel a small power
gain, this one you can definetly feel.
Id say this software upgrade is a winner, and
well worth the investment.
Thanx to Simon at QSZ, for giving me good advice,
and giving me value for my $$$.
heres a link for a free plug for them.
